Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Fighters Party

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and sinister influences growing in power within the city.

Warning: Key plot points for the latest installment of this adventure lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Introduced

Episode 3 ended with a huge suspense moment and revealed the first table of heroes who will separate from the main group to begin their independent quest, apart from the additional parties.

This warrior group consists of Teor (played by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

With a large ensemble, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.

That’s why, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Prelude, weaving together the characters’ stories before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Strategists, and Questers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.

At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the events of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

First, the group has a clear idea where to head next after a intense initial meeting with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose demise started the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his own means, breaking into the hidden lair, attacking the rogue, and stealing all the magical artifacts to auction.

The antagonist then paid off his liabilities and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, above the urban center, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each character has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, desires vengeance.
  • Kattigan has experience in the northern area and cautions that it is a dangerous environment.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his house’s orders to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their reputation as important members in House Halovar could help the team enter places they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor swore a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now accompany him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are wanted by the authorities that control the setting for a multiple motives, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and The cleric turned against the influential house and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This leaves them no alternative but to journey toward the northern region in search of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

Based on the recent installment’s follow-up content, we discover that the warrior group will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight players to form the Questers and Schemers groups.

Fans can expect learning which characters will be in which group in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
